26 years ago today

John Lennon was murdered.

I'll never forget that night. I had the ironing board set p in the living room and was ironing Chris's work shirts. Wendy Tokuda broke in on channel 5 and gave the news that John had been shot in front of the Dakota, and he had died.

I felt like I had lost part of my family.

I've been listening to this today.

HAPPY XMAS (War Is Over)
(Lennon/Ono)

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

Chorus:
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

Chorus
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun

And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

Chorus
War is over, if you want it
War is over now
Happy Christmas

That is one of my favorite Christmas songs.

I cried and cried when I heard, Shelly. I was completely into the Beatles at the time (perhaps not as much as you). Anyway, it was such a sad day.

And I love that song. I heard it the other day and it brought tears to my eyes. I really wish that we could sing "War is over" right now.
